superior

i decided this morning that i'm going to try to work the word "superior" into my vocabulary more often,

i like the word fantastic.
but superior?
it kinda has the feel of the word "radical"....
so when someone says it you know just how off the charts their description really is....

so superior it is.
see kinda rolls off the tongue (not really but we'll pretend like it does)....

yesterday was superior.
as in SUPERIOR DAIRY!!!!

checked another one off the summer list!!!

most people take the Amtrak train when they visit...
we decided to take the hour and 45 minute drive south....
for ice cream.

Yes.
We drove 1 hour and 45 minutes for ice cream.

Let me just say IT WAS WORTH IT.

If you have never been....go.
Plan to spend some time in good old downtown Hanford.
We didn't have as much time because we had errands to run back in Fresno...
but if YOU go....stay and play a while.

Macy got to invite a friend along...
it was so much fun.

Ice cream makes everything right in the world.

It makes it so right, I got a phone call on my way there to schedule my flooring!
They are going to install Friday!
FRIDAY!!!!!
I'll get to be there for the install!!!
(my inner control freak squeals with delight)
Thank you ice cream for making that happen. (chuckle)

the kids got bouncy balls from the quarter machine inside and spent quite a bit of time chasing them around the park.

then we made wishes in the fountain.

when you spill chocolate ice cream on your shorts,
and it looks like you had an accident in your shorts,
you get matching outfits because it's super cute to be the double-mint twins and do everything the same.

i am and i drove a long way for ice cream. it was superior. literally.

you put the lime in the coconut...

isn't that what the dr. ordered to relieve this belly-ache?

actually. i know where the belly-ache is coming from.
it's called stress.

and today, I can thank my dishwasher for that.

a few weeks ago something dropped in my dishwasher on the round heating element inside during a cycle.
the melted object created a hairline crack in the tub of my machine, and a leak ensued.
fantastic.
puddles of water and laminate don't seem to be friends.
they don't have playdates.
not amicable with one another.
double fantastic.

i have laminate that stretches through my living room entry-way, kitchen, into my dining room, and down the hallway.
7 year old laminate.
cheap box-store laminate.
laminate that can't be "matched."
did i already say, "fantastic" in a super sarcastic way?
okay.
just checking.

now we have our first ever insurance claim.
boo.

i should be excited, right?
i'm getting new flooring!

truth be told?
i am.
i'm giddy.
we're going to be the proud new owners of some gorgeous new laminate flooring.
(because hardwood is waaaay outta our price range, i refuse to do tile or aggregate, and who puts carpet in the kitchen?)

but also.
i'm having serious stress.

getting new flooring in such a large space is a "hecka-whole-lotta-work."
(that's one word in case you were confused...it's an adverb)
it means moving furniture out.

we are saving some money by moving it ourselves.
....and did i mention we are also removing the old flooring?
yup.
ugh.

did i also mention that they are supposed to be installing the week that I leave to go to Macy's dance competition in Vegas?
so i won't even be here...
double ugh.

the control freak in me is just having fits.

so last night Steve and I moved out 90% of the furniture.
and this morning my dad is going to remove all the old flooring.
that means, in a few hours...i'll be walking around on sub-floor...
oh joy.

I decided to take a picture of what my morning looked like.
please don't call the looney-bin...
this is how i process and handle my stress...
i have to sit neck deep in it so i know where to turn next.
it's a little like defensive driving.

here's how the room looked before moving out furniture.

and because i have no furniture in the room now...
this is where i sat this morning to drink my coffee.
on top of my kitchen table.
ps, these are the softest most comfy pj pants in the history of pj pants.
don't judge.

so i have some advice for you regarding dishwashers and laminate flooring.

#1: get a dishwasher with a stainless-steel tub basin. they are a bit more money, but there won't be any tub leakage.  bosh also makes one that detects a leak and automatically shuts off.
#2: do not buy laminate flooring that has a satin finish. leave that for paint on the walls. satin finish floors SHOW EVERYTHING. i'm talking about sweaty feet...the whole shebang people. no satin finish. take my word for it.
#3: use your insurance when you need it. that's what you pay for.

and...i have some advice for myself...

GET A GRIP JONI.
seriously.
this is so tiny in the scheme of stress....
so tiny.

i am and i've perfected how to make a mountain out of a mole-hill.

strawberry fields forever

Let me take you down
Cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever

Thank you very much Beatles.

actually.
everything is "real" about these beautiful muffins.

real strawberries.
real butter.
real tasty.

it's what you make when you have visited here:
and....
already have plenty of pantry jam,
have had a few too many fruit salads,
frozen a couple pints worth,
and have a strawberry pie in the works.

you make muffins.
and they make you smile.

STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER MUFFINS

1 3/4 c. all purpose flour
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg
mix together.

in a separate bowl, mix:
2 eggs
1/2 c. yogurt (plain or vanilla)
1/4 c. butter (melted)
1 tsp vanilla

Combine the wet and dry ingredients.

Fold in 1 1/4 c. fresh hulled and cut strawberries.

salivate.

Bake in muffin liners or in a sprayed muffin tin at 375 for 15-17 minutes.
i amand this is my third blog post today. I'm pretty sure I should play the lotto now.

and there you have it.

every time we drive to the coast i take notice of the giant sign on 41 and American Ave.
CHERRY AUCTION <---------------------- Tuesdays & Saturdays
Well.
I love me some farmer's market.
And I get giddy over a fantastic yard sale.
Fair food makes me salivate at the thought.
So I did what I always do this time of year.
I put it on my list.

According to the website, Cherry Auction is all that, and more.
And Kopi is the spokesperson for them!
So of course, I believed the Hawaiian shirt-wearing weather guy, pretty sign, fun name, and left with "high in the sky" hopes.

(insert visualization and memory recall here...)
you know how you felt when you were a kid,
and someone tied a balloon from a ribbon around your wrist...
and you go walking around all proud of your balloon,
and then suddenly is pops and you're startled and then kinda ticked?

that was cherry auction for me.
in a nutshell.

it was booths and booths of the same dollar store junk.
more junk.
and then you turn an aisle...
and.....
there's more junk.
some produce (nothing to brag about here...)
birds, chickens, turkeys, roosters, and reptiles.
ice cream carts.

and it was packed.
for reals.

i'm an over-protective mama-freak.
and i don't like big crowds.

so, we lasted about 40 minutes
(we ate from a taco truck too).

but, i set out what i intended to do.
try out the cherry auction.

i left with a gorgeous flat of strawberries.
that part was swell.
we ate a popsicle from the ice cream cart,
and finished eating it in the parking lot.

so it wasn't a total bust.
but i have no burning desire to hustle back there anytime soon.

and there you have it.

i am and i got to take home the strawberries, and the super hawt driver.

presenting summer list 2012

well friends,
it's that time of year again.

when the school bell rings,
my kids officially don their bathing suits
and the joys of summer unfold.

for the last 3 years or so we have been making our summer list.
inspired by meg
it's a summer bucket list of sorts.

we don't "HAVE" to do anything on the list.
but it's so fun when we take the time to be intentional.

we recycle a lot of our past ideas onto this.
mostly because we still enjoy doing a lot of those things,
or because we never accomplished it in years prior.

so here is our list.
with a little room on the bottom.

cuz ya just never know.

i am and i happen to love lists.
